What should hearing community have knowledge about deaf culture and ASL?

Are the hearing people realizing that deaf are welcome in hearing community? what if they cant communicate sign lanuage? Should they taking training for communicate with deaf people in their business service. Example: Deaf woman entered in the Bank of America for asking a loan application. She wrote a pad to bank represative. But the bank representive already praticed with basic sign poster on wall at office. He signed " want loan ?" Deaf woman was suprised, signed "yes". How does Deaf woman feel?

Well, I think this situation would be compared to someone living or visiting a country in which they don't speak the native language. If you went to france but didn't know a lick of french, wouldn't it be great if someone started speaking English to you? Most deaf people are very glad to have hearing people learning their language. They will usually take the time to try to talk with you because they are so grateful that someone out there besides other deaf people know what the heck they're saying!! I love talking to deaf people. I am taking a class in American Sign Language and my teacher and a fellow student are both deaf. If they can't understand what I'm signing, they'll ask me to clarify. If I dont' know the sign for something or sign something wrong, they'll correct me. And not in a rude way, they'll just show me the correct way. I think more people should learn sign language!! It should be a requirement for all Doctors to know some basic signs for emergencies when it will take some time for an interpreter to get there.

Today, not many people know anything or very much about sign language or deaf culture. They should know more though.
