Yes, there are definitely good and bad community colleges. Look for one which can tell you how many of their students transfer to respected 4-year colleges. I'm an attorney, and I've had clients who wanted to sue their community colleges because they didn't offer what they promised at all. On the other hand, good community colleges offer a smooth transition to 4-year colleges.

Not at all.

Each community college has something different to offer from programs to atmosphere, though, the price is similar.

Attending a community college is just a more direct, cost efficent way for some to recieve their education.
Sure, some are better than others, but it is often more helpful to compare particular programs. Like all colleges, each one has its strengths. I wouldn't call it a waste of time at all. Many people get credentials to advance their careers, many more move on to 4-year colleges. I myself did two years at a community college, transferred to the University of California, and then did graduate school in the Ivy League. Good luck to you.
Not all community colleges offer the same quality programs just as not all four year institutions are of equal quality. Some are better than others.

Attending community college is generally not a waste of time. They can be a great place to meet your general education requirements and test out a variety of disciplines to determine what suits you best. Look for community colleges that have a good record of seamlessly transferring their students to four year universities and are respected by faculty members in area universities.
