My boyfriend is going to community college and i'm going to a 4 year university?

He says he wants to transfer after one semester of community college to the university i'm going to but I really don't know how that really works. Don't you have to go for a whole year for the university to accept you? I know you have to have around 30 hour credits but i don't know if thats around a semester or a year. He is going there because his parents say that he need to feel how college is like but isn't community college like high school?

It all depends on university policy, but not all universities require you to attend a full year of community college before you transfer. The other issue is whether the community college credits will transfer to the university he wants to attend. Not all credits transfer to all universities. He could end up shooting himself in the foot by transferring if his courses don't transfer.

Community college is NOT like high school. It's very much like attending a university, but you don't have the option to live on campus. Actually, in many states community college is a good deal because the education you receive at community college is every bit as good as (if not better than) the education you receive at a university, but it doesn't cost nearly as much.

BOTTOM LINE: If he's going to start in community college he's better off going for a full two years and getting his associates' degree. He'll save a lot of money, and (no offense to you) it's not a good idea to transfer to a university just because his girlfriend is going to school there. If he meets with a counselor before every semester, he can receive guidance that will ensure ALL the courses he takes will transfer to the university of his choice.
